Effects Of Dyad Interventions On Caregiver Strain Among Stroke Survivor-Caregiver Dyads: Preliminary Findings Of An Ongoing Systematic Review

Dyad-focused interventions that include people with stroke and their caregivers are intended to improve the stroke survivor’s function. These interventions may also impact caregivers’ level of burden. Caregivers of stroke patients may experience increased strain due to new caregiving responsibilities. I will present preliminary findings from a secondary analysis that is part of a larger ongoing systematic review. The primary aim of the review is to examine the effects of dyad-focused interventions on health-related quality of life, activity, and participation. The focus of this secondary analysis is to examine the effects of dyad-focused interventions on caregiver burden and caregiver quality of life. The review includes studies that examined dyad interventions, defined as an intervention where patients with stroke and their caregivers are involved in at least 1 intervention session together. The primary outcome of interest in this secondary analysis is caregiver burden, measured using scales such as the Caregiver Strain Index, Caregiver Burden Inventory, or the Zarit Burden Inventory. Secondary outcomes include the quality of life of caregivers, measured using the Carer Quality of Life Scale Positive and Satisfaction with Life Scale. This systematic review will provide valuable insights into the potential of dyad-focused interventions to improve caregiver outcomes.
