Balance of Structural Strength and Aesthetic Appeal

Constantly surrounded by buildings, one does not notice the balance or imbalance of structural strength and aesthetic appeal. Through a series of study diagrams done on the Hagia Sophia, older buildings tend to display the structure through the aesthetic; meaning there is no difference between the two. What one sees to be holding the building together is also the beauty of it. With more recent buildings though, the line has blurred between the two. This research focuses on the Park Square Court building in Saint Paul, Minnesota and through depictions of diagrams (sections, elevations, axons), will show how far along the research is.
