Developing 3D Human Cardiac Models to Enhance Heart Library Usability

The Visible Heart Lab at the University of Minnesota has a heart library-- a collection of hundreds of preserved human hearts used for various studies. The hearts have to be drained from their preservation chambers to be used over a twenty-four hour period. In order to enhance the usability of this collection, three-dimensional models of the hearts are being developed to allow a potential user to directly see relevant anatomical variations. The tissue and blood volume models allow a user to determine whether a specific heart is desirable for a study.
