A Health-in-all-Policies Pilot Study about 318 Commons Life: Students' Experiences of Emotion and Reflection

College is a new time in which many young adults begin to discover new values and the aspirations they have. However, this exciting time also comes with struggles. The freedom for college students to find their identity is complicated with their environment and roommate agreements (McNulty & Swann, 1994). Having a negative living space can hinder an individual's academic performance as well as contributing to a decline in one's mental health (Erb et. al, 2021). To try and avoid these conflicts, the University of Minnesota Rochester requires every student living at 318 Commons to complete a roommate agreement with the Residential Assistant (University of Minnesota, 2021). This pilot study will examine the effectiveness of the University's current roommate agreement, as well as other housing policies that pertain to students including how various policies for on campus living affect the students overall well-being.
