Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Light-Induced [2]Rotaxane
Molecular machines have potential applications in many diverse fields; however, most molecular machines to date have been chemically activated. Chemical activation leads to a build up of waste products around the molecular machines, effectively rendering them inoperable after multiple activations. The proposed photoactivated [2]rotaxane responds to light instead of chemical stimuli, thus no waste is produced. In this presentation I will discuss the design and attempts to synthesize this novel photoactivated [2]rotaxane.
