Intramuscular Injection Device

This project was a collaboration between students, Sadhika Prabhu, Anna Karos and Kelsey Skoog, and anesthesiologists, Dr. Klossel and Dr. Horvath, to create an intramuscular injection device that would reduce risk of needle sticks and patient intimidation of the needle. The solution to this need follows the general design of self inking stamps, specifically the idea of having a slider that remains open due to spring force, but will retract to reveal the inside with pressure on a surface. Additionally, the solution includes a locking mechanism to keep the slider in place to prevent it from sliding up when unexpected. This process required regular visits to the Masonic Children’s Hospital, precise 3D printing, machining and by the end of Fall 2021 the device was partially complete and tested to determine goals and improvements moving forward.
