Parent and Youth Perspectives on a Clinical Decision Support System for Youth with Depression

Depression is one of the adolescents' most significant health problems, and it is the top cause of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) among adolescents (WHO, 2014). In 2021, the World Health Organization released an article on global adolescent mental health, it indicates that adolescents who are aged 15 to 19 hold an estimated probability of 2.8% experiencing depression. Clinical decision support systems(CDSSs) may be a solution for promoting adolescents’ mental health treatment effectiveness by providing personalized treatment recommendations and helping direct providers and families to start with the most likely effective treatment decision. CDSSs have primarily been implemented with adult patients. Less is known regarding the feasibility and acceptability of CDSSs for youth. The aim of this study is to understand parents’ and adolescents’ perspectives on the use of a Clinical Decision Support System for Youth Depression (CDSS-YD) in the implementation of treatment for youth with depression. We conducted a semi-structured interview in a focus-group structure and recruited a total of 20 adolescents and 20 parents. By investigating their perspective, we will improve the delivery methods of CDSS-YD in clinical settings for providing families with a better clinical experience in future studies.
