Determining the Relationship Between PCL (PTSD Check List) and IU-SF (Intolerance of Uncertainty - Short Form) Scores: A Quantitative Study

Intolerance of uncertainty is a trait that has been linked to worsened mental health outcomes and states of emotional wellbeing. Additionally, with public awareness of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) budding in recent years, it is important to understand how this trait relates to PTSD symptoms and behaviors. The PCL (PTSD Check-List) and the IU-SF (Intolerance of Uncertainty - Short Form) are two mental health inventories designed to evaluate PTSD symptoms and level of intolerance of uncertainty (IU) respectively in patients. Studying the relationship between the PCL and IU-SF can provide further knowledge needed to improve future interventions and mental health inventories for PTSD patients, and can help determine how intolerance of uncertainty may predict both primary and vicarious PTSD outcomes. The present study lifted PCL and IU-SF participant scores from a study on anxiety-provoking tasks, using a quantitative correlational study design to determine results.
