Refreshing the Minnesota Timberwolves Promotions

For this research project, we worked with the Minnesota Timberwolves, a team in the NBA to address a game presentation concern that has existed in the organization for the past few years. The Timberwolves have used their current promotional strategies and in-game performers for several seasons, and the live production “show,” is in need of a revamp. After meeting with the Director of Live Programming and Events, we were tasked with two goals: revamp the Timberwolves game nights from a presentation standpoint and keep our suggestions cost effective. Our two primary solutions are to develop a talent pipeline of local Minnesota entertainment acts to perform during the pregame and halftime shows, and to refresh the game presentation from an on-court perspective, including on-court contests, video board content, in-arena music, and additional smaller promotions. Our aim is to overhaul the game presentation on Timberwolves game nights in an innovative way that increases fan engagement and ultimately encourages fans to return to Timberwolves games. Utilizing industry specific literature and research articles, we researched different marketing methods and fan engagement strategies that are potential ideas that can influence our recommendations. After completing a literature review, crafting a game presentation strategy, and developing an improved talent pipeline to perform during pregame and halftime, we will share our findings and recommendations with the Minnesota Timberwolves Live Production and Entertainment team. Ideally, our suggestions will be useful for the organization so they can ultimately implement some or all of our recommendations into their game night show.
