Compressed Air Energy Storage System

Efficient energy storage is extremely necessary in today’s world. The use of an open accumulator and liquid piston isothermal air compressor can be put to use for this purpose. They increase power density and efficiency, and liquid compressor provides a tight seal for compressed air. But implementing isothermal energy storage is difficult as the compressor expanders are not very efficient in keeping the temperature constant and thus some of the energy is spent increasing the temperature when the pressure increases. To reduce the loss of energy, heat transfer media are inserted in the compressor. Another challenge is that the pressure of the air in the compressor depletes gradually leading to low energy density, to overcome this challenge open accumulator system is used to retrieve energy hydraulically and pneumatically. In order to increase the efficiency of liquid piston compressor energy storage, heat transfer will be enhanced by modifications of heat transfer media and optimizing the chamber shape. In order to maximize the efficiency of the compressor, the exact level of liquid in it at a different time has to be known. This can be done by using a water level sensor system. The water level sensor system consists of a potentiometer system that gives out the length of wire not immersed in water. With the help of this, the exact height of the water in the compressor can be found out
